Humans play fair

7 October 2007 by kristarella

Traditional models of economic decision-making assume that people are self-interested rational maximizers. Empirical research has demonstrated, however, that people will take into account the interests of others and are sensitive to norms of cooperation and fairness. In one of the most robust tests of this finding, the ultimatum game, individuals will reject a proposed division […]

Science isn’t…

28 September 2007 by kristarella

A limited view of science What do you think science is? At dinner last night one of our lab demonstrators, who has a BSc (Honours), claimed that he got into science because he wanted to prolong life. Quality life, not life plagued with alzheimers, for example. Somewhere in his speech about long-life, money management and […]

Meteorite Illness

19 September 2007 by kristarella

This story struck me as very strange. Something from a Sci-fi show… Many people are sick after visiting a possible meteor crater. Apparently the meteor hitting the earth can release nasty gases (from meteor chemicals reacting with something in the earth). Squabble – a Scrabble variation for Mac

16 September 2007 by kristarella

This variation reveals letters one by one and you have to make a word with them before the other person (or computer player) does. You can also steal words […]

New Apple products!

8 September 2007 by kristarella

Had a great Saturday at the GKR Karate State Title Had a great Saturday at the GKR Karate State Titles! I was a sub for @jamesxuereb.me in the Blue Flame Dragons thanks to his sprained ankle; we won first round and came fourth overall!
I did a bunch of judging and officiating, which was really good.
I didn’t place in my individual events, but had a very fun final round of kumite (sparring).
