Trying to kill the magic lion

12 December 2005 by kristarella

I read a newspaper article yesterday about how the liberal academics of America are condemning the new Narnia movie because of it’s Christian allegory.

How stupid! It’s fine for the cinema to show any kind of evil slasher film, or Harry Potter which shows witchcraft (which some fundamentalists have been opposed to). Those things are duly rated, children won’t necessarily see the huge evil of the world that movies portray, but it shouldn’t be okay for adults either. I’ve been contemplating that the world is inherently evil, so they don’t mind watching evil in movies (rape, murder, mind games), but when a good message comes along, something they’ve previously heard could lead to eternal salvation, then they think it’s evil.

Children don’t catch onto metaphors anyway, like the writer of the article says, “Children are surprisingly indifferent to quality and they are usually impervious to message as well.” Unfortunately they don’t catch onto the Christian ideas, but they get absorbed in the story and they love it – maybe some parents will see it and think about the Christian ideas…

If you want to read the story (the writer is a little cynical – be warned) you can find it at Times Online.
