Pink Ribbon Brunch

21 October 2008 by kristarella

On Sunday I went to a Pink Ribbon Brunch with my mum. It was hosted by Amanda Atkinson, whose mother Judith was treated for Breast Cancer earlier this year.

Everything was lovely and very pink!

I didn’t know anyone there (except Mum of course), but it was a really lovely morning. Mum was able to talk to some people about how having breast cancer has affected her and how it built her relationship with God. I also shared a bit about how it affected me (not as positively as mum in the short term, but I certainly learnt things).

There was a raffle, a marshmallow guessing competition, and a game of grabbing as many pegs off the line as you can — all to raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Although her web page doesn’t reflect it yet, I think Amanda has raised about $1200 dollars.

Judith told me that if it weren’t for an effort in the Hunter area to get women to have mammograms, she may not have known that she had breast cancer until it was much worse. I hope that the money raised this month is useful for research and application of treatments and early detection methods.

Thanks Amanda and Judith for the excellent morning!

Oh what a fabulous idea! It looks like it was such a good time! I’m glad you were able to raise some money. I love the pink bras – it’s such a cute idea.

Yeah, the bras were pretty cool. Apparently they scoured op-shops looking for them. 🙂

WOW, it was such a nice event, and everybody seemed to have so much fun! And the nice weather was a bonus, I guess? 😀

Had a great Saturday at the GKR Karate State Title Had a great Saturday at the GKR Karate State Titles! I was a sub for @jamesxuereb.me in the Blue Flame Dragons thanks to his sprained ankle; we won first round and came fourth overall!
I did a bunch of judging and officiating, which was really good.
I didn’t place in my individual events, but had a very fun final round of kumite (sparring).
