7 facts about me

7 July 2008 by kristarella

I haven’t gone in for any memes (I always hate that word, but note it’s pronounced “meems”, like “themes”, but with an M) for a while. However, since Pelf tagged me, and I’ve been writing a lot about techie things lately, I thought I’d honour her request with a bit about me.

I’ve actually done this tag before with 7 things and an eighth later on. I’m sure I can come up with 7 more.

  1. I really like quality free software (like you hadn’t noticed!). I’ve built my computer on it.
  2. I love denim jeans. In high school I usually wore low-rise flares, but these days I prefer wideleg style. At the moment I have two pairs in rotation: light blue, stretch denim, Just Jeans brand and dark blue Levis. I have others in the drawer that I don’t like as much.
  3. I love Sci Fi. I didn’t realise I was such a Sci Fi geek until it occurred to me that my favourite shows are Buffy, Angel, Stargate: SG1 and Atlantis, Dr Who, Firefly… Moonlight is ok, it has room for improvement, but I think if given the chance it could be cool (keeping in mind that Buffy was pretty cheesy in Season 1 too).
  4. I love CSS. Seriously, there’s a certain sense of relaxation and satisfaction I get from writing CSS. Still haven’t found my favourite way to organise the code though.
  5. Like Pelf, I don’t like shortening SMS and emails. I actually find it slightly offensive when people who should know better send crap emails (if you’re emailing me from around the web, then I’m not talking about you… referring more to Professors and professional-type people).
  6. My attention span seems to be getting shorter. Not talks, where you can engage with the speaker (sort of, even though you’re only sitting there) and absorb what they’re saying, but for videos, movies… Even eating lunch, I’d prefer to have my laptop or a book open; the food isn’t enough.
  7. I have no idea what I’m going to do next year, or even for the rest of my life. I know I don’t have to confine myself to one thing, but I need to take a step in some kind of direction… I have no idea what that is.

I don’t really like tagging people, so I’m not going too. However if you want to do one of these, please do, and leave a link. Also, leave a link if you’ve already done one; we can learn a bit more about you.

I have no idea what I’m going to be doing next year either, I certainly have ideas about what I’d like to be doing.

Being a scifi geek sneaks up on you like an alien facehugger that… never mind.

My attention span is also getting shorter.

    I blame the internet.

Haha. Lee, your comment literally made me laugh, coughing and spluttering. Ok, not really spluttering, it was kind of a dry cough. Ok, the cough isn’t hard to do since I have some freakazoidle virus at the moment. Wait, maybe I got it from the facehugger…

David, maybe it is the internet’s fault. Although, if it is, it might be because we’ve attuned ourselves to weed out the crap and find the valuable stuff. So, really we have sub-consciously shortened our attention for mediocrity? It’s a theory in progress 😛

“…we’ve attuned ourselves to weed out the crap and find the valuable stuff. So, really we have sub-consciously shortened our attention for mediocrity.”

I’d go with that. The internet is shaping our minds into highly-toned ‘crap filters’. There’s simply so much crap that we appear to jump around a lot. 😉

NOBODY knows what they’re going to do next year! 😀 We can only know what we want to do, but who’s to say that we would certainly be doing it? 😀

Ah yes, the future. James reminds us that we don’t even know what we will be doing tomorrow let alone next year! God will direct your heart to where He wants you to be. But all the same, I can understand how it must be to wonder what path you’ll travel along next! A little scary perhaps, but also exciting, no?

Yay Firefly and Stargate!!! Though I’m sad I missed season 4 of Atlantis. They never really announced it 🙁 And Continuum (the second SG-1 movie) is coming out at the end of this month! Woohoo!! I have yet to watch Dr. Who, but I watched a few episodes of Eureka and that was pretty good. Not sure if it’s still on. And I want to watch Battlestar Galactica and Farscape. I’ve heard they’re both really good, but you have to watch every episode otherwise you won’t know what’s going on.

Oh, and I published 103 Things About Me, inspired by your 100 Things About Me 😀

    Touché on knowing the future.

Despite the uncertainty of tomorrow and trusting in God for our future. It’s still sensible to make plans (knowing that God will change them if he wants to), and there’s some things that seem very likely. It’s very likely that my husband will still be in his current job…

A lot of people seem to get stuff falling into place after a long period of uncertainty and attribute it to God’s guidance. However, I’m sure that he doesn’t always work that way; more often than not he enables us, by his spirit, to make wise decisions, rather than steering our lives in a particular direction. So anyway… I think exciting might be yet to come. 😛

Pelf and Lauren, your comments have reminded me that nothing is certain though. A good thing to keep in mind when uncertainty seems to be all you have.

Oh no! Lauren, you should definitely try to see season 4 on re-runs or on DVD. Season 5 is going to be really good, but the first episode won’t mean that much if you haven’t seen the previous season. Although, there’s a fairly significant “previously” bit, so maybe you will understand.

Dr Who isn’t going to be back on until 2010 now (except for the Christmas special at the end of the year), so there’s a bit of time to watch the DVDs. 😛

BSG is cool too (fairly depressing sometimes though). It can actually be hard to keep track of even if you’ve seen them all. Make sure you watch the mini-series/movie length one first!

I did a bunch of judging and officiating, which was really good.
I didn’t place in my individual events, but had a very fun final round of kumite (sparring).
