Meet the GIMP demonstrates Ufraw

23 March 2008 by kristarella

I previously posted about Ufraw and its user guide, which I found to be quite unfriendly on the website.

I created an easier-on-the-eyes pdf version. Unfortunately it didn’t help, I still didn’t understand at all how this tool was supposed to work. I found it rather discouraging. After shooting in RAW for one day in San Francisco I turned back to high resolution JPEGs. Even though people say you have more control with RAW, if you don’t know how to use RAW editing software, you don’t have any control.

Enter Meet the GIMP. This blog is excellent! It has nearly 40 video tutorials on using GIMP, and other related posts.

Episode 11 covers editing RAW photos with Ufraw and its excellent!
I was a little confused at first because the photo that Rolf was editing seemed almost completely black, but actually he was trying to demonstrate the level of control by using a very under exposed shot. His demonstration and explanation was extremely helpful.

Perhaps, if I have time one day, I’ll see about updating the user guide pdf to make sense. 🙂
