Stepping into eBooks

6 October 2007 by kristarella

eBooks

I’m breaking into the big bad world of eBooks! Actually there’s nothing really ‘big’ or ‘bad’ about it, it’s more like ‘growing’ and ‘kinda cool’. I’m not even really “breaking into” it since I’m not writing, just reading. 😛

My reasons? Well, I was doing a bit of coding on the train and decided I would love an offline CSS reference. While there’s a lot more to HTML Dog XHTML & CSS, which I’m looking forward to reading, Appendix B contains a nice looking CSS resource. PDF of the book can be downloaded here.

I was also thinking about uni holidays (can’t wait!). What am I going to do for three months? I could try getting a job or something, but I’m probably going to have to quit again when I start my honours project. So why not do some reading? I’m yet to find a free, downloadable eBook about PHP, which I’d like to have a better understanding of. However in the mean time (what a weird phrase!) I’ve got Unleashing the Ideavirus, The Art and Science of Web Design (download here), and Beginner’s Guide to SEO.

Skellie compiled a comprehensive list of eBooks, that she’s helpfully categorised. Another motivator for me downloading a few. 🙂

When I had a PDA I used to ues it to read quite a lot of ebooks on it. It’s never as good as reading the real thing though. If your looking to get to grips with PHP, I would recomend the sites: W3 Schools and TiZag. Once you have read those your best bet is to read the PHP Manual, preferably twice. I also enjoy reading the technical reports at the W3C when I have time. I also have guide to search engine optimisation. It’s not as comprehensive as SEOMoz’s but an easier read.

Thanks for your comment David. Sorry it took me so long to respond! It got swallowed by the junk filter. 🙁
Anywho, thanks for the links. I will definitely check them out when I go on my reading rampage. 🙂

Had a great Saturday at the GKR Karate State Title Had a great Saturday at the GKR Karate State Titles! I was a sub for @jamesxuereb.me in the Blue Flame Dragons thanks to his sprained ankle; we won first round and came fourth overall!
I did a bunch of judging and officiating, which was really good.
I didn’t place in my individual events, but had a very fun final round of kumite (sparring).
