This post of Owl’s reminded me of my own near-fire experience recently.
I was toasting a sandwich at work in one of those jaffle makers – you know, the ones that seal the edge of your sandwich. I opened it to check its progress and decided it could use a little longer. However, it wouldn’t shut, thinking I had knocked my sandwich out of place and bread was preventing the closure so I pressed harder. Shock and horror! The was a small explosion as the power cords that were stuck in between the hot-plates shorted out. Indeed I had caught the power cord in there and managed to burn and melt the outer protectors and contact metal to metal on the wires.
That was very briefly a scary moment and more continually a sad one. We no longer have a way to toast our sandwiches. I wonder if it didn’t do some good though – Yvonne now has tomato and sometimes cucumber on her sandwiches.
