Thursday Thirteen #39

Thursday Thirteen
Thirteen things about this new year.
You know it had to be done!

1. The train tickets are green. Last year they were blue and the year before they were red… the weird things you notice when you catch the train every day!

2. My 2007 diary is moss green and is totally cool! I was sad when my nice Parker pen didn’t fit in the pen slot and I thought about buying a new one but it seemed so silly to spend $20-$30 on a diary pen when I already have two nice pens, a ball point and a fountain pen. Then. coincidentally, hubby’s nan bought us all Parker jotters for Christmas. Fits perfectly! It’s actually a refillable diary so if I want to I can use it next year. Still haven’t got a page marker, would like one of those.

3. I’m going back to uni and I’m going to finish third year! This is an exciting prospect because I was doing uni 3/4 time and it was getting a bit confusing, I thought things would be mixed up and drag on forever, but now I’m back on track (even if it’s a year later than it was going to be when I started).

4. I want to lose weight. Everyone says this, I’ve said it many times and done nothing about it. Just yesterday I bought a cheeseburger, but I haven’t started my healthy eating plan yet, I need a plan that I can stick to, with goals, otherwise I won’t have the motivation to keep going. It’s also not just vanity, I hate feeling like a lump, not being able to fit into clothes that I used to or not being able to fit into half the clothes at the store. I also want to be healthy, I don’t want to get diabetes, my dad has type 2 diabetes, I’d like to avoid it.

5. Hopefully I’ll see my mum a bit more. Not sure how since I’ll be just as, if not more busy, we’ll work something out.

6. I wouldn’t mind finding some friends at uni this year…

7. At the start of each year I have a strong desire to be organised, thus my love of diaries. This year my organisational fantasy is buying a Macbook. I have a very spread out timetable, giving me lots of time to do work and other things in between classes. I’ve also got those hour train trips each way. There are computers at uni but most of them are old and slow, the good ones are good but they’re in a computer lab that gets booked for classes increasingly often. A Macbook would be sweet.

8. I’m turning 21 this year! I’m pretty excited about having a party. My 18th was so much fun. My birthday is on “Easter Tuesday” this year, I didn’t know there was such a thing but my diary claims there is. So I was thinking of having my party on Friday the 13th or Saturday 14th. I’m not remotely superstitious so the Friday seems funny 😀 Perhaps to alleviate any guilt over buying a MacBook (I feel funny about spending so much money on something) I could ask people to not buy a present and put any money they would have spent in a box for a charity. I’m really very fortunate and don’t need a whole lot of gifts (I can’t believe I feel this way, I would have a party just to get presents, maybe I’m maturing or something).

9. It’ll be my second wedding anniversary soon. Yay!

10. 2007 (from Feb 17) is the Chinese year of the pig. I wonder if that’s why I saw a poster in the bus the other day saying how pigs are intelligent and inquisitive animals.

11. 2007 is also International Polar Year. Wikipedia is a little confusing on the topic but it seems to have happened before and is now happening again, a collaborative effort of scientists to research the poles. Whether they will especially research the poles or it’s just a commemorative year, I’m not sure.

12. 2007 is also International Heliophysical Year. It will be a collaborative effort to better understand planetary ans universal processes.

13. Apparently on the evening of March 3rd there’s going to be a total lunar eclipse. Unlike a solar eclipse you’re allowed to look at this one so watch out for it!

The Tour Manager and I were talking about the lunar eclipse the other day. Funny you mention it too.

As for pens, ever tried rollerballs? I am addicted to them, much to the chagrin of a friend who swears by fountain pens. Oh, well!

    Happy TT!

My Hubby has the same pen thing…He has had the same pen, the only one thats fits in the springy thing of the checkbook for 20 years. No other pens are skinny enough to fit in there.

I wish I could keep a diary or journal. My hand cramps up too much so blogs are it for me. 🙁

Heh, I don’t think my hand would cramp up but I meant my planner diary 🙂 A blog is enough journalling for me!

I did a bunch of judging and officiating, which was really good.
I didn’t place in my individual events, but had a very fun final round of kumite (sparring).
