Dr Who characters

13 January 2007 by kristarella

We have started rewatching the 2005 season of Dr Who and we’ve noticed several actors are reused in Torchwood with some confluence.

The first is Eve Myles, she plays Gwen Cooper in Torchwood and she appears in the Dr Who episode The Unquiet Dead. The episode is set in the 19th century and her character Gwyneth dies, so there’s no doubt she’s a different person, but she does have a similar name and she is in Cardiff.

The second repeat character is Doctor Sato in the episode Aliens of London, played by Naoko Mori who goes on to play Toshiko Sato in Torchwood. She seems to play some sort of doctor/coroner/scientist in Dr Who and she’s a computer whiz in Torchwood, of course the two aren’t mutually exclusive these days.

Then as we know, in the 2005 season, Captain Jack Harkness is in Doctor Who for several episodes. He was the obvious character that was followed from Dr Who into the spin-off Torchwood. Now I wonder if we’ll see Owen in any Dr Who episodes.

I don’t reckon we’ll see Owen in Who, let’s face it, he’d out nasty most of the monsters. I initially thought that Gwen might be a descendant of Gwyneth, however, it was established that Gwyneth was an only child and died a single virgin so I guess that’s out. It could work though, if, instead of Gwyneth actually dying, she was transported through the rift somehow (leaving her apparently dead body behind) and became Gwen. Pretty far fetched I know, but if you look at what they’ve got away with so far, who knows…

I thought maybe when they called her Gwen in Torchwood that maybe they were thinking some kind of reincarnation, continuity of time type of thing.

Had a great Saturday at the GKR Karate State Title Had a great Saturday at the GKR Karate State Titles! I was a sub for @jamesxuereb.me in the Blue Flame Dragons thanks to his sprained ankle; we won first round and came fourth overall!
I did a bunch of judging and officiating, which was really good.
I didn’t place in my individual events, but had a very fun final round of kumite (sparring).
