Torchwood

21 November 2006 by kristarella

Warning: This post contains spoilers.

Gwen and JackHubby and I have been watching Torchwood for a few weeks now. I quite like it. I don’t think it’s quite as good as Doctor Who. I’m also wondering how the heck Capt. Jack got off satellite 5 after the Bad Wolf brought him back to life.

I thought the first episode of Torchwood, Everything Changes, was a bit weak. I’m not sure why but it just didn’t strike me as a good first episode. Then again, how many first episodes are really good? I did like the way they brought Gwen Cooper into it though. They tried to make her forget Torchwood but one image triggered her memories and she managed to retrieve them. That was cool.

The sixth episode, Countrycide, was possibly the best yet. We watched it this morning on the way to work. I haven’t seen the last three minutes but the rest of it was cool. They started the season breeding a fair bit of sexual tension between Gwen and Jack. He seems to have a soft spot for her, letting her know far more about himself than any of the others know. In this episode the writers blew the tensions out of the water. Gwen asked them all who the last person they “snogged” was. Hers was Reese, her boyfriend; Ianto’s was Lisa, his girlfriend who was killed because she was nearly completely converted into a cyberman, evidently he’s still mourning her death; Tosh’s was Owen, apparently she’s carrying a bit of a torch; Owen’s was Gwen, a heat of the moment-hiding from cyberwoman kind of thing. Gwen was fairly embarrassed by his answer, Tosh was fairly annoyed by it, and when Gwen and Owen were alone they had some rather heatedhot words. Later in the episode there was a slight protective-of-Gwen stand-off between Jack and Owen. It was all kind of spiffy. I love when TV shows get complicated! The story for this episode was really interesting and rather shocking too, but I won’t ruin that part for you. 😉

Update: Watched the rest of this episode. Oh my! I didn’t expect that to happen so quickly.

I did a bunch of judging and officiating, which was really good.
I didn’t place in my individual events, but had a very fun final round of kumite (sparring).
