My Heritage

22 March 2006 by kristarella

Janet pointed us to this site – My Heritage which has a face recognition tool. It’s sort of clever and sort of funny. You load a photo of yourself into the database and it shows you which famous persons you look like.

I submitted a photo of myself which is not great but does look like me. Then I got some understandable and some really weird responses back.

Me 66% Haley Joel Osment 60% Shiri Appleby 56% Mary-Kate Olsen 52% James Horner 52% Julia Roberts 52% Mikhail Gorbachev 52% Shirin Ebadi
You can see that it has worked in some ways – the system seems to be alright at identifying feature shapes, such as chins and noses and eyes and matching them. Obviously just because one’s features are similar to another’s, doesn’t measn you look anything alike.

I foudn this site a few months ago and thought, like you, it was a cool idea. So I tried it and, like you, was not as thrilled as I wanted to be.

I wanted to be blown away by how accurate it was, and also to be able to say, “See-I look JUST LIKE (insert famous hot girl name)!”

But alas, I came up with weird, obscure people, and old men.

And I don’t look like an old man….

I thought some of these choices were hysterical. Now I don’t feel nearly as bad about mine! 🙂
