When song words go wrong…

13 February 2006 by kristarella

I wrote this post a little while ago, which included examples of misunderstood song words. My cuz then left a comment that told a story about how when she was little she adamantly believed that Disney ended with a silent P… can you blame her?

I also wanted to share that a guy we know believed that in Creedence’s Bad Moon Rising, rather than the words being “there’s a bad moon on the rise” he used to sing “there’s a bathroom on the right”. It’s very funny but understandable if you listen to the song.

Purple Haze just doesn’t sound the same to me since someone told me they thought Hendrix was singing “Excuse me while I kiss this guy.”

Someone once told me that they heard the line “I got my first real six string” in Bryan Adam’s song Summer Of ’69 as the line “I got my first real sex dream”

Strangly enough the song still works with that line… its just a little more troubling.

You’re right – it still works… although I’d be worried if someone went straight from their *first* sex dream to whatever else happens in that song, they’d be a quick learner… so yeh, it works, but troubling.

Good to see you here David!

I wish I could figure out where that line in Purple Haze is, but I must admit I haven’t listened to Jimmy since about year 8. I’ll try to dig him out.
