kristarella.com Network in Progress

16 June 2011 by kristarella

I’ve finished the move of kristarella.com to a new server (well, that happened a while ago, but I’ve made more progress since then)!

The improvements to WordPress (WP) over the last couple of years have been great! The integration of WordPressMU with the main WP stream into WP networks was a good move for any one interested in multiple WordPress sites, and custom post types and taxonomies are pretty sweet. So now I have all of those things working over my network, and more. The network is still in progress, some designs and functions are not finished yet, but you’re still welcome to check them out.

  • The original kristarella.com blog
  • My photoblog now has its own domain
  • 365 project blog, which is way behind! but I’ll get there
  • Kristarella Studios also has its own site with my portfolio, free skins, and (hopefully) soon paid skins

I need to create a master nav menu to link the sites together and add more content to all of them, but I’m glad that they’re all up and running now.

I’m using Thesis child themes on all of them, which I’m finding very convenient for customising each separately while all using the latest version of Thesis.

I have high hopes of updating these all more regularly— wish me luck! And feel free to take this opportunity to ask me about my sites, Thesis or whatever you fancy.

Congrats on the move Krista! I noticed your site loaded a lot faster 😎

I’ll be most impressed when you bring out some paid Thesis skins. I know they’ll be top notch!

    Take care,
    Jonny

I believe the site loaded faster compared to my earlier visits here. Great for those who visit this blog as a reference for Thesis – (A wordpress Theme which provokes extreme views!)

I think I update my design as frequently as you do… though not with the same results. As always, I enjoy your work. Nicely done.

Are you doing these sites on one database? As in, do you have one WP-admin for all the sites, or multiple? I’m also curious if each of these has its own Analytics package, its own xml sitemap, or is that all rolled into one?

I have a few URLs, most of which get very little to zero love, but I think if I followed your example, it could be good.

Postscript… While I no longer run Mini, it’s because Chris basically told me I was being overly sensitive and I should grow a sense of humor because I didn’t like being told to read the f****** manual. My wife still says my blog has NEVER looked as good as it did while I was running your skin.

James — Heya, yeah… I’m using a WordPress “network” (equivalent of the old WPMU), so it uses one database and a semi-combined admin— you control the plugins a bit from the network admin and then there’s separate dashboards for each site, but all easily accessible from the new admin bar at the top.

I want to create a home page that shows recent stuff from all the site, but I haven’t got around to that yet.

You can certainly see your expertise in the article you write.

Had a great Saturday at the GKR Karate State Title Had a great Saturday at the GKR Karate State Titles! I was a sub for @jamesxuereb.me in the Blue Flame Dragons thanks to his sprained ankle; we won first round and came fourth overall!
I did a bunch of judging and officiating, which was really good.
I didn’t place in my individual events, but had a very fun final round of kumite (sparring).
