The new STM bags are so cool!

25 January 2008 by kristarella

After my searchings for a bag that would hold my camera and my laptop didn’t go as planned; I made a wrap to go around my camera to put in a regular bag… or a laptop bag.

I saw some STM bags at the shops this week, which are excellent.

STM Medium Duplex
The Medium Duplex has pockets on the outside for water/umbrella/mobile phone, and a removable padded computer cover. It wouldn’t have any trouble fitting my camera, some gear and a couple of books, plus wallet and passport and all that.

STM Medium Phantom

The Medium Phantom is really spacious and light. It looks nice. All the pockets are very accesible, the laptop section has a nice little velcro flab to hide/protect your laptop. Even the Small Phantom is roomy enough to fit my computer, camera and other stuff. The red colour doesn’t look great on the website, but is actually really attractive in person.

I was hoping that it would seem sensible to buy one of these bags. I didn’t think my camera fit in my STM backpack (which I don’t want to carry while walking around anyway; it’s huge and weighs about 5kg with nothing in it). My usual carry-around bag is just an open sling bag, so if I had to put it in the overhead compartment of the plane, things might fall out. If it rains while I’m out and about it probably isn’t ideal.

However, hubby suggested I use my backpack as carry-on, and pack my sling bag for carry-around. Since he’s the sensible and sometimes thrifty  one – where as I get excited about cool new things and just want to buy them – I guess that sounds like a reasonable compromise. It turns out that I can *squeeze* my camera in there if needed.

So now that’s off my chest I can stop thinking about how cool these bags are and move on… if you’re looking for a laptop bag I recommend them!

I did a bunch of judging and officiating, which was really good.
I didn’t place in my individual events, but had a very fun final round of kumite (sparring).
