I suspect a lot of people find that earbuds, or earphones, or headphones, whatever you want to call them, don’t fit properly or they just hurt. Some people have small ears (I thought this was my problem for a while) and the buds are just too big. Perhaps it’s just the hard plastic sitting in your ear that hurts.
I’ve never been able to wear them properly, some hurt more than they’re worth and others just don’t sit in my ear. I watch people walking around with Apple earbuds in and I wonder how on earth they do that! Mine just fall right out. If I use them on the train I have to hold the stupid things in with my fingers – it’s all very awkward.
I used to have some cool earphones that looped over the top of my ears, but they were stolen.
I think I’ve finally figured out why they don’t stay in my ears! It’s not because my ears are too small, they’re a fairly average size really. It’s because the bottom bit of cartilage is flat. That part directly above the ear lobe doesn’t stick upwards to make a little nook for the ear bud. It’s like trying to hold chopsticks without a thumb – good luck!
So I’m hoping that one day, in the not too distant future, I’ll be able to buy some headphones that overcome the whole situation. 😛

I have the same trouble! According to the doctor I have very small ear canals… go figure. I use headphones that sit outside the ears — that might solve the problem.
Like this, actually: :music:

Haha, yeh – I had ones like that, they didn’t have a bit that goes over your head, just hooked over the ears… they were great 😛
I don’t think I’ve ever had a discussion with my doc about ear size – your ears must be tiny! Just kidding 😀

Oh yes. I had this problem for years. I had never been able to find a pair of headphones that fit comfortably.
I even resorted to massive ones which completely covered my ears, but they made my head sweaty (which was a bit unpleasant).
But then I discovered the joy of the squidgy headphone bud. I can’t remember where I got mine from, but I think it was eBay, but they look very similar to the bottom on on this this web site:
http://www.headphoneworld.com/.....phones.htm
They come with three different sized plugs, and I found that they gripped the ear without causing any pain. Funnily enough, my right ear canal is bigger than my left, so I use different sizes for each.
I got mine (the ezGear ultraEars SX50 rather than the SX70) for about £20, and I got it from http://www.soundwise.co.uk. Best purchase I ever made. 🙂

Yeah yeah – my husband got some with different sized inserts. Apparently they’re great for cancelling out sound and also have good bass.
I still don’t know if I’ll get inside-ear ones or hook over ear ones like http://www.soundwise.co.uk/earphones/sh611.shtml which is similar to what I had before. Anywho, it’ll be a while before I can afford any of them 🙂 Hubby’s cost about AU$70 (about 29 quid) and my old ones were about the same at the time, but now would be AU$50. Soundwise looks good, maybe slightly cheaper…
p.s. good to hear from you! How’s things? Marriage working out well for you?
