Campaign Month ’07

28 April 2007 by kristarella

My friend Dave (come to think of it I don’t think I’ve ever called him Dave, he’s more of a David) has declared this, the month of April, to be the second inaugural campaign month. Ok, so I made the “second inaugural” bit up myself, but it has a nice ring to it don’t you think?

My campaign for the month, I have decided despite the month nearly being over, is against the word addicting. Has no one noticed that this is a stupid word? If it’s even a word at all. Answers.com has it down as a verb, but really no one actually uses it as a verb, everywhere that I’ve seen it written has just (incorrectly) replaced the adjective addictive with it.

How would you even use it correctly, lets think about some verbs for a minute… I’m running, I’m walking to the station in the morning, I’m eating a piece of cake (I wish!), I’m addicting… no that doesn’t sound right… I’m addicting to chocolate… nope, not right either. I’m addicted to chocolate, I’m becoming addicted to grape tomatoes, smoking is addictive… that feels better.

Please, for the month of April and beyond, combat the use of this stupid word “addicting”!

Argh! I even spelt it incorrectly and it was in the spell-check dictionary!
