Thursday Thirteen #38

21 December 2006 by kristarella

Thursday Thirteen
Thirteen albums (or part thereof) on my iPod nano.
I really want to make an iPod TT header but I’m at work so I can’t.

1. Jars of Clay by Jars of Clay – I’ve loved this album for ages but I haven’t listened to it much in recent times. I bought it for a secret santa present for Yvonne (wasn’t much of a secret since obviously no one but me in lab would buy that) and I heard her listening to it yesterday so I decided to pop it on my iPod last night. I just love Worlds Apart, one of my all time favourites.

2. Stay by Jeremy Camp – I’ve wanted this one for ages so when I was out buying Jars of Clay and saw that it was only $14.95 I had to get it. It’s just my kind of music; guitars, great male voice, some of it is what I call soft rock and a couple of songs are a bit heavier. Plus he’s a Christian, very cool.

3. Dizzy Up The Girl by Goo Goo Dolls – I just loved Slide and Iris when they came out and when Iris was on the movie City of Angels. The whole album is really good, Black Balloon is a good song too albeit sad.

4. Eyes Open by Snow Patrol – such a good album, it’s very mainstream rock but I’m not paranoid about being mainstream because it’s great to listen to. Their song Chasing Cars was on the last episode of Grey’s Anatomy, which I don’t happen to watch but Yvonne did and it inspired her to buy the album.

5. She Will Have Her Way the songs of Tim and Neil Finn by various Australian female artists – I’m loving this album more and more with each listen. The original songs were good, but the great thing about this album is that each singer doesn’t just sing the song the way the Finns did, they add their own style to it. Six Months in a Leaky Boat isn’t my favourite on the album but when done by Little Birdie is an excellent example of what I’m talking about, it’s just so Little Birdie. It’s a great tribute to the Finns but also to the talent of the Australian women on the album. I also dig the cover art for this one.

6. Felicity Soundtrack – It starts with She Will Have Her Way by Neil Finn (ironically not on the She Will Have Her Way album), it has Good Enough by Sarah McLachlan and a beautiful song, Puddle of Grace, by Amy Jo Johnson, who played Julie, Felicity’s first friend in New York.

7. Life For Rent by Dido – loved the first album and had been meaning to listen to this one since it came out. I finally got a hold of it recently. It’s so good, much happier than the first album.

8. More Than You Think You Are by Matchbox 20 – I just love this band, it’s sad that they broke up. Still perhaps it’s better to break up and finish on a high point rather than burn out and write crap music.

9. Recurring Dream (The Very Best of) Crowded House – I sort of bought it to go with She Will Have Her Way, so I had some of the original songs. At the moment my favourite song on both albums is Distant Sun.

10. Telegram by Kate Miller-Heidke – okay, so I only have the songs Blah Blah and Space They Cannot Touch because they were free to download from her site. Space They Cannot Touch is gorgeous though, I just love it.

11. The Gospel Project by Idea of North – it’s pretty good, I think it’s growing on me. They have a great song about a chicken that’s definitely worth a listen, very funny.

12. One More Drifter in the Snow by Aimee Mann – to get me in the Christmas spirit πŸ™‚

13. (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? by Oasis – takes me back to years five and six when I used to sing Morning Glory and Wonderwall with my friends. Good times, good album.

I got my 13 up early too. Hehe. Dido has such a beautiful voice. I may have to pick that new CD up too. I heard some good reviews about Amiee Mann’s Christmas CD.

I looked up the Austrailian woman on your list and LOVE her. Sadly, ITunes doesn’t have her listed so I can’t get her songs. But she’s fantastic…

Also, I have trouble leaving comments here. The “add comment” button always shows up right in the middle of the box, and most of the time, it times out…wonder why?

That’s terrible about the comments. Actually my posting has been a little slow as well. Perhaps I should try to clean up my database. I don’t actually know how to do that, I shall see if someone will help me.

Happy TT! Yeah, it’s sad that Matchbox 20 broke up, but we still have Rob Thomas making good music (and charging too much for his shows, but what can you do?)

I don’t know any of those songs, but at least I’ve heard of the bands/singers LOL!

I’m so clueless with music. I have heard of some of the artists, just not the songs, though I might recognise them if I heard them.

I did a bunch of judging and officiating, which was really good.
I didn’t place in my individual events, but had a very fun final round of kumite (sparring).
