No smacks

15 December 2006 by kristarella

I don’t know what possessed me, but a while ago I put my blog on the list to be reviewed at I Talk 2 Much. I don’t read their site much any more so I didn’t even notice that last week I was reviewed. If I’d checked my stats I might have notice that my visitors tripled but I didn’t.

The review went something (or exactly) like this:

Anyone who uses the bible to express any type of intolerance is not a christian. Even if 99% of her blog was interesting commentary on things with which I also had an interest, her statement when talking about HIV that “God intended man to be with woman” ruined her entire blog for me. If you are a christian and you believe in god, then let god judge people for their wrongdoing. It's not your place, and by doing so, you're putting yourself on the same level with something that you consider divine. Oh, that's not what you meant? Too fucking bad.

Besides the hypocrisy, her young age and immaturity are obvious in many posts. Some of the topics are interesting but they're also hard to read with white text on gray (which is worse than white on black in my opinion), a horrible script font for her categories and blog header, and a design sense that seems more technical and less artistic. Her other themes are better, but her holiday one needs serious work.

So if she hadn't pissed me off with that comment and the subsequent post whining about a response to said comment, this might have been a blog I'd read frequently. It's doubtful now, though.

This was actually a way better review than I was expecting. The first paragraph doesn’t bother me, he obviously read the discussion in the comments and said “Oh that’s not what you meant?” His is a good point too, I don’t entirely disagree with all of it, I try not to judge people, expressing what I think God’s intentions are/were (revealed in the bible) isn’t judgement.

I’m young and immature, that’s disappointing since everyone I meet thinks I’m mature for my age, so much so they keep telling me and it gets annoying. I would have thought my “young age is obvious” would be a more fair since a 20 year old is bound to be less mature than a whatever-aged CEO (not always but probably). If I could magically make myself less young and immature I would seriously consider that, it might save a lot of confusion from this “growing up” thing. That confusion isn’t life-long is it?!

Doesn’t like my template, bummer. I was thinking of trying something different for the new year anyway, we’ll see. I don’t see why should it be more arty than technical…

I lost a reader because he doesn’t agree with one thing I said. That’s sad but the words of Glenjamin and Rocky spring to mind, what were they again? Oh yeah – Suck it up princess.

The comments were maybe more interesting than the post itself.

I don't hate gay people as directed by the bible.

Uh huh, way to read between the lines things that are simply not there (in the bible or my posts).

Christians scare me. I'm secretly afraid that whatever they've got is contagious.

Healthy attitude. What’s up with all these non-Christians whining about intolerance and then saying stuff like this?

I HATE intolerant Christians, especially an idiot who will insinuate AIDS is a gay disease. So, what about the millions of children in Africa orphaned or dying of AIDS? Where do you place the blame then?
Fucktard.

Someone who obviously can’t read or can’t be bothered to come and read the discussions we had after that post an presumes to place judgement where it doesn’t belong. Fantastic, another intolerant heathen.

I think she defended her position quite fairly in her comments, look at the 4th comment in the post Avi was talking about concerning “God wants men to be with Women”

https://kristarella.com/blog/?p=544

It's an opinion, we all have them, because she bases hers on the teachings in the bible weather correct or not makes them no less valid of an opinion.

How one acts upon such an opinion is where it becomes…well bad. If she was the owner of say…”haven’t checked this link therefore not publishing it” …then I might call her a crazy Christian.

Overall I like #1 and don't see what the whole problem was in the first place.

Charles~

Finally someone that makes sense! In response:

I read her comments on that post. Maybe she should have thought before she posted something, eh?

Hindsight is always 20/20.

Hindsight my butt. Coming from a guy whose blog’s tag line is “tact is for the weak” and “tact is for pussies”.

Anyway, now that I’ve read and written all that I should go and do something productive with my day 🙂

That wasn’t as bad actually — I have seen worse. Not as bad as mine anyways. I don’t read that blog anymore because after a while it is the same thing over and over again and it just gets old. At one stage early on, I thought they were quite amusing.

I keep coming back to the fact that a guy that has an ugly blog and less than interesting blog like AV shouldn’t be reviewing others and saying their blog is not nice looking nor criticizing about ones content. “Pot calling the kettle black” comes to mind. However I was shot down with that comment when I made it — whatever. It was the IT2M calvary against me, so I was going to be always on the losing end. Credibility isn’t there but anything that comes out of that site is far from credible anyways, it’s a joke blog not to be taken seriously. If you don’t have at last 10 F-bombs in one post, they won’t like it. Ok, I’m exaggerating there but not by much. People like that who get pleasure in criticizing, putting other people down and laughing at ones expense always have some kind of insecurity and some inadequacy themselves that they are trying to hide. And behold the wrath if you ever criticize them — they can’t take it at all and they’ll start becoming defensive and abusive.

Like I said before, religion is always a controversial issue and that could be debated in 1000s of directions and for long time to come without end. I respect everyone’s opinion about it but to put out a statement like “whatever they’ve got is contagious” shows how shallow and immature one is. Some of the comments out there just show massive stupidity, it’s just a waste of time to respond to. I am surprised at Charles the Tech though, as he actually was the sensible one … didn’t think he had that in him. There is goodness in everyone?

The rest of the comments on that review just showed how many people took the effort to read your post further (i.e. zip, nil, nadda, none) and into what you said after that.

If you lost AV as a reader, you aren’t losing very much. You probably won’t want people like him on your blog anyways. To not want to read a blog anymore because of one comment shows the type of person he is.

Also I don’t think you are immature at all. Didn’t see where he saw that or I might be just bias. Might be oblivious because I am maybe immature myself.
If you write what you think and feel — that’s golden. If someone else thinks it is boring or doesn’t agree, then it is their opinion. I think you have enough loyal readers that think otherwise.

I kind of agree and disagree. When I first saw his blog I was like “Woah!” and rolled my chair back from my computer, a big black and white and red bearded face and was that a pic of Hitler? but he is kind of funny, albeit toilet humour so one needs to be in the mood for that kind of thing.

I found there were two more pages of comments that I hadn’t read(the blue links on the purple background are practically invisible!). There was some ranting about sex and cookies and then these comments by Jane from Jane Loves Tarzan:

I actually don’t think her writing is that bad. She’s young & seems somewhat open-minded. It’s a shame she associates AIDS & HIV with homosexuals & not the children in Africa who get raped because of the myth that having sex with a young virgin will get rid of AIDS. Or monogamous women who get AIDS because their husbands cheat. Or the elderly who get AIDS because the ratio of men to women is so great and sex is rampant. (seriously)
At least she is getting an education, which is always a good thing. Hopefully in pursuing her education, she’ll learn more about this horrific disease.
Oh, it took no time at all for this to load in Firefox.

      and then,

I just read the comments on the “gay” post & must say, for being 20 years old, she’s got a good head on her shoulders. Whether or not I agree with her beliefs, at least she knows why she believes what she does.
Another thing that impressed me is she actually considers what others write & isn’t above apologizing or admitting she was wrong.
That’s pretty damn good for being so young. (and a Christian) 😉

So that was nice to read.

Thanks, I appreciate you saying I’m not immature. Greatly appreciate you continuing to read my blog too, you’re always welcome!

BTW, signed up for Pay Per Post and got approved yesterday… have to check out the opps.

    Hey Kriso,

I found it painful to read the comments on IT2M. Comments like “I’ve never seen anything good come from any type of religious belief” reveal a great lack of thoughtfulness and a clear prejudice on behalf of some of the commenters. Seeing some defending the right for those with a Christian worldview to allow that worldview to show through their words and actions was encouraging, but the point was not taken. Anyway – I don’t think you should worry about it (I get the feeling you’re not that fussed) and just continue to allow your worldview to permeate all that you do and say.

    .e

p.s. did you actually sumbit your site for review? Why?

      Will do Eddie.

Yes I submitted my site, I was curious and finally at a point where I thought I could handle whatever they said. I wasn’t really trying to pick a fight or anything, I think I maybe wanted to test myself because I knew there’d be criticism. I like my site and I’m trying to improve my writing, for example writing proper sentences rather than the brain drivel that used to come out. I probably fail at that sometimes, but I have been getting more practice at taking criticism, constructive or otherwise. I’m also learning to converse with people that have other “worldviews”, particularly on the topics where our opinions differ, without getting too sensitive about it. It’s good to care what others think but sometimes I get too emotional about it. I suspect it was mostly curiosity though.
