CUPS and Gutenprint

21 October 2006 by kristarella

We bought new ink for the printer today so I decided it would be a good idea to have another crack at installing the printer on Kubuntu. I used the printer wizard and it wouldn’t install the driver, so I tried in administrator mode; that didn’t work either. I downloaded the source for Gutenprint (a mac and unix printer thingy) and was going to compile it but found that gutenprint was already installed. Then I realised I’m a dork and I was trying to install the “recommended” driver which was foosomething + gutenprint when I really wanted CUPS + gutenprint.

If you’re trying to install an Epson printer use Common Unix Printer System!
