Koo boon too

8 September 2006 by kristarella

Weyheyhey kids! I transferred all my files off my computer, uninstalled Windows and installed Kubuntu, a GNU/Linux operating system.

Well, that’s how I started this post yesterday but I didn’t get a chance to finish it. Yesterday I was reading some of the Kubuntu documentation and I’m looking forward to getting into. Alas, that won’t be happening because my computer is dead. Full on, turn it on, listen to the fan go and nothing else at all. No beep, no nuthin’. Hubby was trouble shooting the hardware, taking it out piece by piece. In the end he only had the bare minimum for any running and nothing was happening. So it’s either the motherboard or the power supply. I’m hoping it’s the power supply because it’s the oldest thing there and it’s cheaper than a new motherboard.

I wrote a haiku about this whole incident but I had better not publish it now, I’m entering it into Think Geek for a chance at a $50 gift voucher.

Today I’ll be using the Tablet PC. I swear, this keyboard is made for midgets! No ten fingered typing on this sucker, I can barely fit my fingers on it! Well, I’m exagerating; I can if I try really hard 🙂

Cool Beans! You have to tell me how “Koo Boon Too” Linux is working out for you. I did have experience with Linux Mandrake years ago (7-8 years ago to be more precise) when I had my harddrive dual partitioned with Microsoft/Linux but have not played with it since then as I found the incompatibility of certain useful MS software a little cumbersome. It’s probably advanced a lot since then – I’ll have to try it out in the future. Did you get a new tablet PC too?

I haven’t installed any of my MS programs yet. I’m still playing with the standard ones for my various things like FTP.
I didn’t get a Tablet PC, it’s sort of my husband’s from when he was tutoring a subject at uni and the coordinators had some extra grant money. They decided to see how the Tablets assited teaching. That was last year and they havne’t asked for it back yet so we’ve been using it for some things. I used it to write out my study notes before exams last semester. Not that I have the problem but it would be useful against leftie-pen-smudging 😉

Had a great Saturday at the GKR Karate State Title Had a great Saturday at the GKR Karate State Titles! I was a sub for @jamesxuereb.me in the Blue Flame Dragons thanks to his sprained ankle; we won first round and came fourth overall!
I did a bunch of judging and officiating, which was really good.
I didn’t place in my individual events, but had a very fun final round of kumite (sparring).
