I walked into JB Hifi this afternoon and said “Hi, I would like to buy the Canon 350D.” They said “We’re out. We had one and we’re just selling it now.”
My face sunk like the Titanic, my spirit deflated like a holey beach ball.
They called the city store but they must have been pretty busy because they couldn’t get through. So they’re calling back to tell me if the city has one or when they get one in. Although it seems like the stocks everywhere are running out fast. Canon has had a $100 cashback offer on for a couple of months now, evidently to get rid of stocks ready for the release of the new EOS 400D. That’s right, 2 days ago they announced that in two weeks (or twelve days to be exact) they are releasing a new model to replace the EOS 350D.
To be honest I don’t know if I want more choice. I can try to get the 350D, which will possibly go down in price or the newer but slightly more expensive one. Nikon on the other hand has announced the release of the D80, which is slotting in just above the D70, I’ve read it described as the D200 jammed into a D70 body. So this may bring down the price of the D70 thus making it affordable for me whereas before I was looking at and decided against the D50. I’d made a decision and now I’m all confused!
I want to take a trip to a decent camera shop and hold the different models in my hands, see which one takes my fancy then compare prices and features and so on. I’ve already compared them but now there’s new ones and different prices! I suppose it’s a good thing to be forced to have a bit more time to decide and see what the newer/other models have to offer but to be honest I’m still pretty disappointed that I’m not spending my afternoon charging my new camera battery and reading a user manual to a new toy.
On other disappointing news, the girls were really bad at youth group last night. They were talking over each other, not listening to each other, not listening to us and at the end they wanted to rush through praying so that they could go out and chat to the boys. It was really discouraging, especially on top of my very unexcited feelings when I was on my way to church. At one point one of the girls said hurriedly “Can I speak?” then continued her story in the same breath. It wasn’t even a question because if she’d waited the answer would have been “only if it’s highly relevant.”
