Back to reality

15 August 2006 by kristarella

I hope you’ve been visiting Laci while I’ve been away! If not, you must click on her now! Do it, do it now, don’t do it slowly. Oops, started channeling True Lies. :sheepish:

Avoca was excellent! It was so relaxing. It is a fantastic feeling to go to sleep at night knowing that you don’t have to worry about anything for tomorrow. You can go out to eat, or buy stuff and bring it home, so there’s a couple of groceries to get but that’s no worries and you can do whatever you want. Those things included watching TV and playing games. We managed to get through nearly the whole first season of Dr Who, which we finished off when we got home. It was good, I really liked it. The Bad Wolf was cool, very mysterious, although I think it had the wrong effect on me at first because I’d already seen the second season which has a werewolf episode. We also played heaps of Scrabble and Boggle. I love games and I’d ever played Boggle before. We won about even numbers of Scrabble games so that was quite satisfying.

I put my right to procreate at risk this weekend. Not physically but mentally, have you ever heard “Stupid people shouldn’t breed”? It’s actually a blog but I’m pretty sure I’ve heard it before then. Well I was stupid this weekend. We went into the butcher’s to get some meat for dinner. The butcher asked if we were ready to order or if we needed a minute. Or hubby says he said something to that effect because I didn’t hear what he said at all. It sounded to me like “Have you ever been to Avalon before?” I thought to myself, well umm, we’re in Avoca, not Avalon, I guess it’s close enough except that the actual places are no where near each other. When I asked him to repeat himself he did the typical male thing. He didn’t change the way he said it at all, same volume, same tones and inclinations, same sounding to me. I said something like “Um, we’ve been here [as in Avoca] but not here [in this butcher shop] before.” Hubby gave me a weird look and I said “What, what?” I suspected that I’d answered the wrong question. I felt like such a dork. Meh, I am a dork. Stupid thing number two was me thinking that my driver’s licence expires in less than a month. I therefore tried to book the test for me to go from P2 to full licence and got the response of “requirements not fulfilled”. I was a tad afraid I wouldn’t be able to do the test in time. When I checked this morning it turned out it will expire in September 2007!

In true GKR style, it didn’t matter that we made very reasonable time coming home from Avoca because the grading was running way late. It’s difficult to put a time on the whole thing but I’ll try, the kids grading was meant to be 2-3pm, it started at 2.30 due to the sheer volume of people there and getting them signed in. It ran over time, it might have finished a bit before 4pm. We started a bit after that and we left the building after 6.30pm. It was supposed to finish at 5pm! We missed church since we can’t be in two places at once. Wouldn’t it be cool if you could be?! Send the other you somewhere and then you can merge your minds so that you remember both events. Cool! Not so good for crime though, you couldn’t have an alibi, you’d have to do things like implant tracking devices in people. Oh well, the freedom was good while it lasted.

Yesterday I spent some time on the church website design. So far I’m not loving what I’ve come up with. It’s okay but it needs some serious tweaking before it has that thing that makes you say “Oooh.” when you look at it.

Now I’m at work… the yawns, the droopy eyes, getting up early, going to bed late, reality sets in.

I did a bunch of judging and officiating, which was really good.
I didn’t place in my individual events, but had a very fun final round of kumite (sparring).
