Whoopsy daisy

15 March 2006 by kristarella

It was raining this morning. Intrisic features of a rainy day involve slippery floors and all transport becoming incapable of functioning properly. Usually this second feature involes car crashes, car delays, train delays, signal problems, bus delays (possibly due to car delays).

Unfortunately I fell victim to both of these rainy day happenings. Firstly, the train that I usually catch was so late that when I looked at the board I thought it had been cancelled and that there was another train coming later. So I got on a different train that would have taken longer on a non-rainy day anyway. This train took a very long time to get to its destination and it was very full. The vestibule area was nearly packed like sheep and after another couple of stations it really was packed.

Mel and I decided to stand in the aisle of the seating area where one has less chance of being pushed and proded by other passengers. One step off the bottom step down to the aisle and my feet flew out from under me. My bottom hit the floor with one big jolt. It was quite a shock, and thankfully all that came out of my mouth was “Ow!”

Thanks to my voluptuous bottom this wasn’t as big a crisis as it could have been. It hurt but it was only flesh so it went away after a while and none of my bones are out of whack nor do I have any bruising (that I know of). A nice man helped me up and then gave me his seat. It was very good. Then the man he was sitting next to accusingly asked some school kids “Are you going to get up and give the man a seat?” Oh the days of being a school student – ride the trains for free but get kicked out of your seats.

The moral of the story is either hold on when walking in the wet or don’t wear your years old, worn down, no grip flip-flops on a rainy day.

Similar to the position I found myself on the train this morning.

I did a bunch of judging and officiating, which was really good.
I didn’t place in my individual events, but had a very fun final round of kumite (sparring).
