What the heck?

15 February 2006 by kristarella

This article was in the Sydney Morning Herald today. People flocked to be blessed by a calf that was born with folds in its skin saying “There is no God but Allah”; this calf is supposedly God’s response to some blasphemous cartoons.

This article reminded me of a time in fourth grade at primary school when there was a group of boys that were pretty cool. Brenton and David were in my class, Luke, the cutest of them all was not. We all fancied Luke and one time we wrote him love letters asking if he would go out with one of us “Yes”, “No”. The idea was that he circle his answer. Not having a pen in the play ground, the response to mine was to rip the yes out of the page so that left “No” being the answer. To make myself feel better I decided that he had ripped it out in the shape of a heart – there was hope for the future! When I said this in class Brenton said “no he didn’t, I was the one who ripped it out”. Deep down I knew that what might have been the inner point of a heart was really just the point where Brenton’s thumb and forefinger met in the ripping process. Not to worry, it wasn’t all lost, I later went out with David, which is a another story.

The point is you can believe whatever you want, it doesn’t make it true. I don’t know about anyone else but a god that writes his messages in the skin of lower mammals seems kind of lame to me – apart from the fact that flocking to be blessed BY A COW seems slightly idolatrous.

Thanks Mags! Don’t worry – I’ll be there tomorrow – definitely, at some point, I haven’t quite got the hang of the time difference, but it will happen.

Had a great Saturday at the GKR Karate State Title Had a great Saturday at the GKR Karate State Titles! I was a sub for @jamesxuereb.me in the Blue Flame Dragons thanks to his sprained ankle; we won first round and came fourth overall!
I did a bunch of judging and officiating, which was really good.
I didn’t place in my individual events, but had a very fun final round of kumite (sparring).
