Cricket Superbowl

7 February 2006 by kristarella

Everyone is talking about the Superbowl (including my tenant, go visit him!). I’m not American, therefore not too excited about the Superbowl, nor do I understand it. I did however go to the last day of the test cricket1, Australia vs. South Africa on the 6th Jan 2006. It was pretty cool. The match had lost a lot of time2 due to rain and looked like it was going to be pretty boring but then the South African captain was really brave and he declared3 the South African Innings to give Australia a chance to bat. Australia had to get 286 runs (I think) which was doable. We were at work and when the South Africans declared we decided to go down the road to the SCG (Sydney Cricket Ground) and watch the rest of the match. Mel at work is a member at the SCG so she got her ticket and then one on a guest pass and then she has two other pass things so we got in for “free”. Sweet! Australia won AND Ricky Ponting got a century (100 runs), not only that but he got one in the first innings as well giving him two centuries in his 200th test! It was a good moment.

1 A test series is a series of 3 matches, each match played over 5 days (I think)
2 The match is 5 days regardless of whether you stop because of rain so there was only that one day left
3 When you declare an innings you are essentially saying “we have enough runs to win” it means your batting innings is over and the other team comes to bat

Where is the link to your new tenant? (I am slow and can’t find it on the left! – Although I found it by clicking on his name in your comments).

It’s in the sidebar, there’s a thumbnail of his blog – the green looking one. Right above the words “rent my blog now!” or something like that.

Totally awesome to see you here Hez! Also, as you may have seen I figured out my blog positioning problem I was talking about =)

Had a great Saturday at the GKR Karate State Title Had a great Saturday at the GKR Karate State Titles! I was a sub for @jamesxuereb.me in the Blue Flame Dragons thanks to his sprained ankle; we won first round and came fourth overall!
I did a bunch of judging and officiating, which was really good.
I didn’t place in my individual events, but had a very fun final round of kumite (sparring).
