At KYLC we sung a song that they were calling “I’m forgiven” but having looked it up on the net it seems to be called “You are my King (Amazing Love), it’s by Billy James Foote. I really like this song except for one line.
It goes:
I’m forgiven because you were forsaken,
I’m accepted, you were condemned.
I’m alive and well, you Spirit lives within me;
Because you died and rose again.Amazing love, how can it be,
That you my King would die for me?
Amazing love, I know it’s true,
And it’s my joy to honour you.
In all I do I honour you.You are my King, you are my King,
Jesus, you are my King,
Jesus, you are my King.
Can you guess which line I don’t like? Well, I’m not going to give you too much time to think about it… It’s “In all I do I honour you.” Who of us can say that in everything we do we honour God? Even after we’ve accepted that we’ve disobeyed God and can only be reconciled to him by through Jesus, even though we have his spirit, we still don’t obey him all of the time. Although we try, we sometimes convince ourselves that it doesn’t matter, or we are angry and just let go, or for whatever reason, we don’t always honour God, so we shouldn’t sing that we do.
I want to be able to sing this song at church. To do so I think we would have to change that line though. Maybe something like “And it’s my joy to honour you. In all you do, you are true.”
Not many people really think through what they sing in Church. At times, I have the same thought as you do. But I guess it’s the heart that the Lord sees. It’s no doubt that Man is sinful, but be thankful that He has given His Son for us.
God Bless 🙂
